Can you believe that the devil had the audacity to quote Psalm 91 to the Lord Jesus Christ while he was tempting him in the wilderness? He actually quoted a verse that exists, though it was taken out of context and distorted in an effort to deceive. But, thankfully, the Lord Jesus Christ did not fall for it and he had an answer to refute this false argument – also based in the word of God.
An uncomfortable thought, is perhaps how little of the word of God we actually know for ourselves. Would we have been able to refute the devil when he twisted the scriptures to pervert the will of God? Or would we have just accepted it because it sounded close enough?
Unfortunately, in the times we live now- deception is the order of the day. This should not surprise us however, because the bible forewarned us that this would be one of the signs of the end.
“For false messiahs and false prophets will rise up and perform great signs and wonders so as to deceive, if possible, even God’s chosen ones” Matthew 24:24
There is a plot to deceive multitudes , and if possible , even the very children of God.
How then can we protect ourselves from this wave of deception? Let’s take a leaf from the example of our Lord Jesus Christ – our role model. He knew the word of God so deeply for himself , such that even though it was quoted to him , he had the discernment to pickup the falsities s and he had his own sword of the spirit ready to strike down the deceptive lies of the devil, even though they seemingly appeared to be based on the word of God.
We live in an era of wolves in sheep’s clothing.
Sharpen your sword of the spirit – the word of God. No soldier goes to battle with a blunt sword. Practice how to use your sword.
How?
Quote scripture to yourself , memorise it, internalise it, speak it. Meditate on it as God commands us to do. Then , when the time comes when you have to yield your sword – you will be ready. You will be prepared with a sharpened sword that you are skilled at using- because you have been sharpening it and practicing with it daily. With the grace of God – you will be undefeatable in any battle.
Very soon, you too will be striking down falsehoods that are masquerading as the word of God as effortlessly as our saviour, Jesus Christ.
It all starts with knowing the word of God truly , for yourself.
