An army led by singers.
After consulting the people, the king appointed singers to walk ahead of the army, singing to the Lord and praising him for his holy splendour. This is what they sang: “Give thanks to the Lord; his faithful love endures forever!”
At the very moment they began to sing and give praise, the Lord caused the armies of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir to start fighting among themselves. The armies of Moab and Ammon turned against their allies from Mount Seir and killed every one of them. After they had destroyed the army of Seir, they began attacking each other. So when the army of Judah arrived at the lookout point in the wilderness, all they saw were dead bodies lying on the ground as far as they could see. Not a single one of the enemy had escaped.
2 Chronicles 20:24
Here is another lovely scripture,
When the people heard the sound of the rams’ horns, they shouted as loud as they could. Suddenly, the walls of Jericho collapsed, and the Israelites charged straight into the town and captured it. Joshua 6:20
The battle is won in praise and worship. Your tongue has the power of life and death. What you say determines the tide of the war.
These people put the choir IN FRONT of the highly skilled warriors with the weapons. They trusted in Jehovah and his faithfulness more than in their own might and weapons of war.
What does this teach us today? For me, I am learning that whenever I find myself in a challenging situation , my first response should not be how to fight solely based on the physical skillset I feel I already possess.
Instead, while acknowledging my skillset , my first line of defence should STILL be God. We should take the issue to boldly to God in prayer first, and knowing his will and promises are ‘Yes! and Amen” – our job is then to stand firm and praise the Lord for the victory. With all our might – out loud if possible as demonstrated in our banner scriptures for today.
Rather than meditating on the negative , why don’t you put on some good praise and worship music and dance with the reckless abandon of King David. This man is recorded to have been a serious and proper ‘Man of War’ and yet he still had time to dance and praise the Lord ? Why?
He discovered a weapon more powerful than physical weapons.
Allow the words of praise and worship to sink in and bear witness with your spirit until they come alive inside you. Seeing as we are spiritual beings who walk by faith not by sight , it is only fitting to function based on our spiritual world where praise and worship are recognised weapons of mass destruction against the enemy.
A war was won without a fight. A wall came crashing down and a city was conquered . All at the sound of whole hearted praise to the Lord of Hosts by his people, who were standing firmly in line with His will and the word He had spoken.
What does this mean for us today? Find God’s will and promises for your life, take them boldly to the Lord in prayer and declare them to the invading enemy. Stand your ground and shout His praises loudly.
As the word says, the Lord inhabits the praises of his people ! Watch the walls come crashing down. Hold your peace. Win the war without a fight. As Jehovah has done before for others, he will do also for you . He does not change.
In parting, the words of the man known to have been after God’s own heart –
Let all that I am praise the LORD; with my whole heart, I will praise his holy name. Let all that I am praise the LORD; may I never forget the good things he does for me. He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases. He redeems me from death and crowns me with love and tender mercies. He fills my life with good things. My youth is renewed like the eagle’s!
Psalm 103: 1-5
God bless you.
If you have not yet received Jesus Christ in your life, now is as good a time as any! If you need help with what to say, try this:
Lord Jesus , I confess with my mouth that you alone are Lord. You are the son of God and he raised you from the dead. Please forgive me of my sins and be my personal saviour from today. Write my name in your book of Life. Thank you for this eternal gift and bringing me into the kingdom of God. Amen.
